Community greenhouse mastering lab opens at Astoria Properties

A group of young people of the Astoria Residences NYCHA held a ceremonial ribbon-reducing on Monday to celebrate the opening of an indoor greenhouse within the housing complex’s neighborhood middle. The greenhouse will double as a meals supply and science lab for children and their households.

The lab, which the nonprofit New York Sunlight Operates constructed with funding from the New York Electricity Authority, works by using hydroponics to grow crops indoors with no any soil and consists of seeding stations, a tower backyard, hanging vines, and a composting station.
